چکیده

Based on our previous experience we want to compare the performance between five hypervisors: XEN-PV, XENHVM,Open-VZ,KVM-FV,KVM-PV We have simulated the migration of a virtual machine by using a warning failure approach. Based on some experiments we have compared CPU Consumption, Memory Utilization, Total Migration Time and Downtime. We have also tested the hypervisor’s performance by changing the packet’s size from 1500 byte to 32 byte. From these tests we have concluded that Open-VZ has a bigger CPU Consumption than XEN-PV, but the Total Migration time is smaller than in XEN-PV. XEN-HVM has a worse performance than XEN-PV, especially regarding to Downtime parameter.KVM-FV has the worse performance but it can improve by modifying it, so in this way we use KVM-PV which has approximately the same performance with Xen-HVM

Quantitative Comparison of Xen and KVM

We present initial results from and quantitative analysis of two leading open source hypervisors, Xen and KVM. This study focuses on the overall performance, performance isolation, and scalability of virtual machines running on these hypervisors. Our comparison was carried out using a benchmark suite that we developed to make the results easily repeatable. Our goals are to understand how the di...

Using KVM to run Xen guests without Xen

The inclusion of the Kernel Virtual Machine (KVM) driver in Linux 2.6.20 has dramatically improved Linux’s ability to act as a hypervisor. Previously, Linux was only capable of running UML guests and containers. KVM adds support for running unmodified x86 operating systems using hardware-based virtualization. The current KVM user community is limited by the availability of said hardware. The Xe...

Performance Prediction and Evaluation of Parallel Applications in KVM, Xen, and VMware

Cloud computing platforms are considerably attractive for parallel applications that perform large-scale, computationally intensive tasks. These platforms can provide elastic computing resources to the parallel software owing to system virtualization technology. Almost every cloud service provider operates on a pay-per-use basis, and therefore, it is important to estimate the performance of par...

Open Source Virtualization Management Using Ganeti Platform

Abstract — Ganeti is an open source virtualization management software used in small as well as growing businesses that can help users to manage networks, storage and virtual machines (VMs). Software is built on top of popular virtualization technologies such as KVM, Xen and other open source solutions. This paper contains introduction to Virtualization, introduction to Ganeti that is a cluster...

An Evaluation of KVM for Use in Cloud Computing

In this paper we describe a virtual cluster based on the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) as an alternative to VMWare and Xen. Speci cally we show how the virtual cluster is built and tailored to t virtual organizations. The technique presented in this paper, known as the Virtual Organization Cluster Model, shows great potential for cloud computing. In our implementation, we used a minimalist...
